Norhart Gives Back Through Hearts and Hammers

On Saturday, August 20th, 2022 Norhart participated in Hearts and Hammers – Twin Cities, fostering a partnership of success and volunteerism. More than 80 Norhart employees, friends, and family members happily showed up on their Saturday to help improve the home of a Minnesota Veteran. Trades that came to help at the event included carpenters, framers, electricians, painters, maintenance staff, mechanical/HVAC, and plumbers.

Mike, a retired Army veteran and member of the Lino Lakes community, lives in the same house he was raised in by his parents, with family a short distance away. Due to the age of the home, there was a lot of improvement necessary that he was hoping to have done. Norhart’s Charitable Giving Committee met with Mike a few times prior to the Hearts and Hammers event and came up with a list of items the team could work on. This spaned a wide range including landscaping and cleanup, cosmetic updates, plumbing repair and fixture updates, HVAC mechanical work, electrical fixes, window and house trim work, painting, siding on the home, a new deck, a new garage roof, and more!

The Norhart volunteers got hard to work and successfully completed all of these incredible improvements in just one day! Four large trailers brought the needed materials. Norhart gathered donations from Alerus and Hartford Capital to assist in funding the projects, a brand new stove for Mike’s kitchen from Warner Stallion, and additional donations from several other vendors.

To keep the crew energized and working hard, Norhart also hosted a grill out lunch on the site for all the volunteers as they worked on the home. It was a great day to make a positive difference in the life of a Minnesota veteran, and Norhart’s community came together to do just that.

The Hearts and Hammers website writes that their mission is to “provide exterior home improvement assistance for Senior Citizens, Disabled Individuals, and Veterans of the United States Armed Forces or their Surviving Spouse so that they may continue living independently.” Hearts and Hammers operates in the Twin Cities, MN and Dallas, Texas. To date, over 8,500 homes in these two metro locations have been restored. Norhart is proud to have partnered with such a great organization to help improve the life and home of a Veteran in our local community!
